Iraqis hold rallies protesting suspension of flights with Iran
TEHRAN – Large numbers of people held protests in the shrine cities of Najaf and Karbala to express their strong opposition to the Iraqi government’s decision to suspend direct flights between Iran and Iraq at the Trump administration’s order.
Popular demonstrations and protest actions by the Iraqi resistance could even lead to the fall of the Ali al-Zaidi government. The majority of Iraqi Shiites are deeply angry with al-Zaidi's decision to comply with the Trump administration's air sanctions against Iran.
A demonstration was held near the Shatt al-Arab River in Basra demanding a review of the decision to suspend flights to Iran. Basra Provincial Council Chairman Khalaf al-Badran also participated in the demonstration, with protesters calling for the resumption of air travel between Iran and Iraq.
