Turkey has taken a critical step in the space race. With the project announced by President Erdoğan, a three-phase spaceport is being built in Somalia. Astrophysicist Dr. Umut Yıldız, speaking live on A Haber, stated that Somalia's proximity to the equator and its strategic location opening onto the Indian Ocean reduce launch costs, adding that this move is of historical importance for Turkey's independence in space.
Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced that the necessary feasibility and design studies for the spaceport that Türkiye will build in Somalia have been completed and that the first phase of construction activities has begun.
