The source explained to Safaq News that fire broke out around 12:00 p.m., describing the fire as the site contained tanks and oil materials, which led to an escalation of heavy smoke columns. The source added that the civil defence teams in Erbil immediately went to the scene and imposed a security cordon, while the teams made intensive efforts to block the fire and prevent its spread to nearby refineries or installations.
Fuel depots in Erbil, the capital of the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (IKRG), were engulfed in flames.
