Due to the low water level, numerous interesting objects have surfaced on the Danube. These include the remains of an Austrian ship that sank in 1944 near Medve (Dunaszerdahely District), which have become visible before during low water levels, but never as much as now. The wreck is located approximately 1.3–1.4 kilometers from the Medve Danube Bridge, on the Slovak side of the Old Danube, about 140 meters from the shore.
In various places in Europe, remnants from the Second World War have surfaced due to the extreme drought. For instance, about twenty German shipwrecks were suddenly exposed in Serbia, while in Germany, an American bomb was recovered from the Rhine.
