FIFA Officials to Meet Iranian FA to Discuss World Cup on Saturday, Says Source
FIFA will reassure Iranian officials that all qualified teams can enter and compete safely as Iran seeks guarantees after travel and security concerns.
On Saturday, FIFA Secretary-General Mattias Grafstrom meets FFIRI officials in Istanbul to offer "reassurance" regarding Iran's participation in the World Cup.
Earlier this month, FFIRI President Mehdi Taj was refused entry to Canada for the FIFA Congress in Vancouver because of his links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps .
Both the United States and Canada classify the IRGC as a "terrorist entity" and will not admit people with links to the elite military force, while Iran is scheduled to play matches in the United States.
Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, stated that FIFA must ensure all delegations can enter host countries without restriction.
President Donald Trump said two weeks ago that he was "okay" with Iran competing, while the Iranian national team plans to leave Tehran for a training camp in Turkey on Monday.
