Millions of U.S. Private Wells Contaminated by PFAS Without Federal Oversight: AP Investigation

States are testing thousands of private wells for PFAS contamination as many owners were unaware; up to 12% of wells sampled near industrial sites showed PFAS, officials said.

The roughly 40 million Americans who get drinking water from wells are at particular risk when harmful forever chemicals contaminate the supply. Odorless and colorless, the chemicals known collectively as PFAS are linked to increased risk of certain cancers.
