Aid Convoy Sets Off for Russian-Held Town of Oleshky in Ukraine, Izvestia Says
- On Friday, an aid convoy carrying food and medical supplies began moving toward Oleshky in Kherson region, following completion of demining operations that cleared the route for the humanitarian mission.
- A temporary ceasefire, reportedly brokered by First Lady Melania Trump, permitted the operation to address acute deprivation in the town under Russian occupation since February 2022.
- Russian human rights commissioner Yana Lantratova confirmed two people died during demining efforts, while 25 buses with at least 750 seats stood ready to evacuate residents from Oleshky.
- Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets stated the mission's primary goal is ensuring aid reaches every resident, with the convoy scheduled to reach the district hospital by 2pm local time.
- The operation serves as a diplomatic gesture in US-mediated peace efforts, though Moscow and Kyiv remain far apart on terms for ending the war.
