A closer look at Harvey Carignan
Trisha Taurinskas’ reporting includes previously sealed 1974 trial transcripts and interviews with a survivor who testified against Harvey Carignan.
On Friday, reporter Trisha Taurinskas released an investigative series examining serial killer Harvey Carignan, including previously sealed 1974 trial transcripts obtained during her months-long reporting.
Known as "The Want Ad Killer" and "Harv the Hammer," Carignan was born in Fargo, North Dakota, and later convicted of sexual assault and attempted murder in Minnesota and Alaska.
Taurinskas is producing a multi-part podcast series, The Vault, to accompany the articles, featuring archival images and an interview with a survivor who identified Carignan during his trial.
During the reporting process, Taurinskas successfully filed a request to unseal transcripts from Carignan's 1974 trial, where he testified and presented an insanity defense.
Subscribers can access the investigative series in the e-edition pages, while the first episode of The Vault is available on major podcast platforms.
