9 people killed, including 2 children, in mass shooting in northern Pennsylvania
Police said nine people, including two children, were killed and the suspect died by suicide as investigators work to determine a motive.
On Friday, nine people, including two children, were found dead following a shooting on the 700 block of Perry Street in Erie. Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah called it a "horrific loss of life."
Officers first responded to the 700 block of Perry Street around 5 p.m. following 911 calls reporting shots fired. The situation escalated into a standoff that ended when the Erie Police Department SWAT Team breached the residence.
Witnesses observed a man firing a handgun at two women outside before entering the home at 722 Perry Street. Police discovered the suspect dead inside with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Mayor Daria Devlin issued a statement assuring residents the situation was contained with no ongoing threat. The Erie Bureau of Police is offering counseling to officers impacted by the "horrific scene."
The Erie County Coroner and police continue processing the scene as investigators work to determine a motive. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or the suspected shooter.
Nine people were killed by the perpetrator, to whom there is hardly any official information so far. He himself is said to have also fatally injured himself.
