$87B Quebec plan aims for 77 per cent of energy consumed in province by 2050 from renewables
The Quebec government aims for 77 per cent of the province's energy consumption to come from renewables by 2050, up from 48 per cent currently.
Energy Minister Bernard Drainville announced a 25-year resource management plan in Varennes, Quebec, outlining this goal.
By 2050, Quebec plans to reduce energy from fossil fuels from 52 per cent to 23 per cent.
Achieving this will require an $87 billion investment in hydroelectric upgrades and new wind, solar, and bioenergy sources, mostly separate from Hydro-Québec's $200 billion plan.
