Will the Timberwolves play LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards together all the time?
Early preseason minutes suggest Chris Finch will split Ball and Edwards to keep both guards fresh and give Minnesota more ball-handling options.
- The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired guard LaMelo Ball to pair with Anthony Edwards, shifting Edwards off the ball to reduce his primary playmaking burden and maximize their offensive potential.
- Minnesota sought to resolve stagnant offensive possessions from previous seasons, with Ball's playmaking skills designed to break down defenses and generate easier scoring opportunities for Edwards.
- Coach Chris Finch has not "settled" on rotation plans but emphasized "great trust" in his guards. Early preseason data shows Edwards shooting 54% from the floor and 60% from distance with Ball.
- Despite a 128-106 loss to the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, Edwards remains confident, recently delivering a bold message to the league. He recorded 26 points against the New York Knicks.
- The team, which reached Western Conference finals in 2024 and 2025, aims for another deep playoff run this season. Success largely depends on maintaining health for a roster with a history of injuries.
