Braun Extends Indiana Gas Tax Suspension Through Dec. 4
A fill-up could cost $5 to $15 more if the state’s temporary fuel-tax suspension expires, officials said.
- On Wednesday, Indiana Governor Mike Braun extended the suspension of state gasoline excise and usage taxes through Dec. 4, covering all 92 counties to prioritize affordability for Hoosier families and farmers.
- This marks the seventh time since April that Braun has suspended the taxes, previously citing disruptions to the global oil supply as the reason for the emergency measures.
- The extension saves drivers around 60 cents per gallon, keeping average gas prices under $4 a gallon; AAA reported Indiana's state average for regular gasoline was $3.75 as of Nov. 4.
- Braun also signed a second executive order extending diesel tax relief for farmers and timber harvesters, allowing them to use dyed diesel in qualifying highway vehicles during harvesting operations.
- Without this extension, a typical fill-up could cost $5 to $15 more starting Thursday. The governor's office confirmed existing reserves will reimburse local governments and ensure infrastructure projects continue uninterrupted.
