Woman Heard Screaming for Help as She Was Attacked by 5 Dogs, Police Say
Police forced entry after hearing screams and shot five pit bulls to stop the attack, while the woman was taken to the hospital with severe injuries.
A 47-year-old woman was attacked by five dogs inside her home on McKennie Avenue in East Nashville on Monday, June 8, 2026, after a neighbor called 911 hearing her screams for help.
East Precinct officers forced entry into the residence and found the victim "bloodied and lying motionless" on the kitchen floor with the dogs attacking her. Three officers fired service pistols to stop the assault.
Officers provided emergency medical care at the scene before the victim was rushed to Skyline Medical Center with serious injuries, where she underwent emergency surgery and is now recovering.
Metro Animal Control took custody of a sixth dog found gated away in a bedroom that remained uninjured. The MNPD confirmed the woman had acquired all dogs from an animal rescue organization.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, and the MNPD is conducting a standard protocol review regarding the officers' use of force in the incident.
