1 of 4 Fires Held East of Coquihalla Highway, Slight Growth on Another
BC Wildfire Service says three of the fires are suspected lightning starts, while the largest blaze covers 12.17 hectares and remains under investigation.
- On Aug 22, the BCWS discovered four wildfires west of Tulameen and east of the Coquihala Highway. Most remain out of control as fire crews actively patrol and action the blazes.
- Three of the fires are suspected to be lightning-caused, while the Lower Mount Rabbit blaze remains under investigation. Active fires also burn at Holm Creek , Upper Murphy , and Mount Britton .
- The largest blaze, K61756 near Lower Mount Rabbit, remains at 13 km from Tulameen. The Holm Creek fire has grown to 3.89 Hectares, while others span 0.3 to 0.4 Hectares.
- Tulameen Fire Chief Jody Woodford confirmed crews are patrolling and notifying residents on Lawless Creek Road. The Regional District of the Okanagan Similkameen stated no evacuation alert is required for the Electoral Area.
- Fire Chief Woodford asked residents to remain vigilant for any new lightning-caused starts. The BCWS continues monitoring the fires, which remain active west of Tulameen.
