Apple Unveils HomePod Mini 2 with Siri AI, a Faster Chip, and a $50 Price Hike
Apple’s new smart speaker keeps the same design but adds the S10 chip, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6, with Siri AI coming in a later update.
- On Tuesday, Apple unveiled the HomePod mini 2 for $149, available for preorder with shipments beginning October 30, alongside the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K priced at $299 and launching November 13.
- The HomePod mini 2 features an S10 chip replacing the older S5 processor, alongside Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6 upgrades, marking the first hardware refresh since the speaker's 2020 launch.
- Although the S10 chip enables Siri AI functionality, Apple confirmed the feature will not arrive at launch, with support coming "in a future software update." Personal context features require pairing with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone.
- Users can pair up to four HomePod mini 2 speakers with the new Apple TV 4K to create surround sound, with the system automatically calibrating audio timing and levels based on each speaker's detected room position.
- At $149, the HomePod mini 2 represents a $50 increase over the original model, positioning Apple to challenge rivals like Sonos and Google as it expands its smart home ecosystem presence amid growing competition.
