4 dead in small plane crash near Colorado ski resort community of Steamboat Springs

The crash of an Epic E1000 turboprop killed all four occupants and prompted an FAA and NTSB investigation into pilot, aircraft, and environmental factors.

  • On Feb. 13, an Epic Aircraft E1000 crashed near Emerald Mountain in Steamboat Springs around 12:20 a.m., killing four people at the scene.
  • Local officials said the crash happened on the south approach to Bob Adams Airport, at the top of Emerald Mountain, with preliminary reports citing unknown circumstances in mountainous terrain.
  • Records show the aircraft registered to ALS Aviation LLC of Franklin, Tennessee, with a certificate issued in April 2024 and company records indicating formation on Dec. 7, 2021, and later inactive status.
  • Routt County officials said search-and-rescue teams recovered four bodies and the coroner is identifying victims to notify next of kin, while the crash site remains cordoned off and NTSB investigators are en route.
  • The FAA expects a preliminary report in about 30 days as NTSB investigators document the scene and focus on the pilot, aircraft and operating environment.
