Long Island Missing Child Rescue Operation Results in Successful Location of 34 Children and Teens
More than 100 professionals from nearly 40 state agencies helped recover children ages 7 to 18 and provided follow-up support.
On Friday, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that a three-day multi-agency operation located 34 missing children and teens across Long Island and Queens. The Long Island Missing Child Rescue Operation involved more than 100 professionals from nearly 40 state agencies.
Coordinated by the National Child Protection Task Force , the operation leveraged Clearview AI facial recognition technology to generate investigative leads. CEO Amos Kyler said the partnership reflects the company's commitment to protecting vulnerable youth from exploitation and harm.
Minors ranged from 7 to 18 years old, with recoveries including 18 from Nassau County, 12 from Suffolk County, and four from Queens. Investigators reviewed 70 local cases during the three-day effort, which concluded Thursday.
Recovered youth received medical care, counseling, and safe placement options to address immediate needs. Office of Children and Family Services Commissioner DaMia Harris-Madden stated the goal extended beyond recovery to providing stability and long-term support.
Despite the operation's success, state officials confirmed 31 local missing child cases remain open. Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder emphasized that ongoing investigations will continue to locate additional missing youth.
