300 Indiana National Guard troops arrive in Washington D.C.

Indiana National Guard soldiers are supporting Washington, D.C.'s Safe and Beautiful mission with patrols and traffic control to reduce crime and property damage, officials said.

  • On Dec 7, 2025, about 300 Indiana National Guard soldiers from the 113th Engineer Battalion and 2nd Battalion, 150th Field Artillery Regiment arrived in Washington, D.C., at the request of President Donald Trump to support the D.C. Safe and Beautiful mission.
  • On Nov. 19, Indiana Governor Mike Braun authorized the deployment and Hoosier Guardsmen trained for weeks at Camp Atterbury before departing Friday from the Johnson County Armory in Franklin.
  • As the mission evolves, Hoosier Guardsmen will train alongside Joint Task Force‑District of Columbia while working with local and federal law enforcement partners on community safety patrols and traffic control posts.
  • Security-first: Since shootings of two guardsmen, President Donald Trump announced plans to surge 500 more troops, but critics questioned the crime rationale citing FBI data.
  • Multiple states, including Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Ohio’s 150 troops, maintain a presence in D.C., with the mission extended until Feb 28 of NEXT YEAR, while Indiana estimates no longer than four months.
