Mbappe double helps Real Madrid sweep aside Sevilla ahead of El Clasico
Mbappe’s brace and a Panenka penalty pushed Real Madrid within six points of Barcelona before next week’s Clasico.
- On Sunday, October 18, Real Madrid led Sevilla 2-0 at half-time at the Santiago Bernabéu after Arda Guler scored in the 30th minute and Kylian Mbappé added a second goal seven minutes later.
- Referee Mateo Busquets Ferrer and VAR took no action when Guler elbowed Peque Fernandez, a decision that allowed the midfielder to remain on the pitch and score the opening goal minutes later.
- Yan Diomande provided the assist for the opener, while Mbappé has now been involved in five goals across five La Liga games against Sevilla, demonstrating his clinical form against this opponent.
- Real Madrid climbed to third in La Liga with 21 points, narrowing the gap on leaders Barcelona to six points while sitting one point behind Atletico Madrid following the victory.
- Sevilla remains winless in their last 15 meetings with the hosts, losing 13, a streak dating to December 2008; the result leaves the club sixth on 14 points after their unbeaten away run ended.
