2.3 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Westchester County, N.Y., USGS Says
On March 10, 2026, the U.S. Geological Survey recorded a 2.3 magnitude quake near Sleepy Hollow at 10:17 a.m.
Faulting at shallow depth produced the tremor, an intraplate earthquake occurring about 4.5 miles below ground, USGS said.
Nearly 800 people reported feeling the March 10 quake as of 11 a.m., with responses from Yonkers, Tarrytown, White Plains, Mount Kisco, and as far as Putnam County.
Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins said no damage reports have come in and that officials at the former Indian Point site are conducting precautionary surveys.
The region sits atop ancient faults such as the Ramapo Fault, with historic seismicity since 1950 including 43 other magnitude-3-and-larger quakes within 250 km.
