European politicians from the far right are gathering in Israel for a conference on anti-Semitism this week, sealing an alliance with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government that would have been unthinkable in the past. Meanwhile demonstrators gathered outside parliament on Wednesday evening to protest a bill that would increase political influence over the appointment of judges. The extreme right-wing leader, whose invitation by the Israeli government is criticized by Jewish French and community representatives, paid tribute to the victims of 7 October and the Shoah.
The president of the National Rally became the first leader of the French far right party officially received in Israel, with his visit in progress since Tuesday 25 March. Jordan Bardella is taking part this week in a conference to combat anti-Semitism, at the invitation of the Israeli government.
