Just two decades ago, every schoolchild in Poland knew: the Solar System has nine planets, and Pluto is the last, farthest one. However, on August 24, 2006, the scientific world was shaken to its foundations. The International Astronomical Union (IAU) made a decision that forever changed astronomy textbooks: Pluto was demoted and moved to a new category: dwarf planets.
Almost 20 years ago, Pluto was downgraded to a dwarf planet, and the decision triggered a continuing debate. Now, NASA leader Jared Isaacman Pluto wants to recognize as a full-fledged planet that the historic decision of 2006 should be revised. (Read more)
