2 teenage girls arrested for allegedly planning Riverside County school shooting
Detectives said the teens spent months researching school shootings and discussing weapons before investigators arrested them on conspiracy to commit murder charges.
On Tuesday, authorities arrested two 15-year-old students on suspicion of conspiring to conduct a school shooting at Corona High School, with detectives identifying one student from Corona High School and a second from Norco High School.
The investigation began on Oct. 6 when the FBI alerted the Corona Police Department to social media communications about a potential threat, prompting police to serve search warrants at multiple Riverside County residences.
Evidence showed the suspects spent several months researching school shootings and brainstorming attacks; communications revealed the pair discussed methods to obtain weapons but had not yet been able to do so, according to police.
Both suspects remain in custody on charges of conspiracy to commit murder while the Riverside County District Attorney reviews the case, and no weapons were found during searches at their homes.
Police confirmed no schools were placed on lockdown during the investigation, which involved collaboration with the Corona-Norco Unified School District; officials reminded parents to report concerning behavior to ensure community safety.
