Two Men Charged After Directing Laser at Aircraft in Kentucky
Two men were charged with wanton endangerment after targeting a police helicopter with laser strikes and gunfire during a search for a missing child, police said.
- On Nov. 3, a Kentucky State Police helicopter over Mason County was repeatedly struck by a ground-directed laser and had multiple rounds fired toward it, KSP says.
- KSP says the helicopter was assisting a search for a missing 11-year-old from Robertson County near Mayslick, placing it over Mason County during the operation.
- KSP reported that the tactical flight officer sustained possible physical injury to his eyes from the laser exposure, and court documents show shots were fired at about 9:40 p.m., with McKee admitting to firing a.380 handgun.
- KSP says investigators located and arrested Jason McKee, 49, of Mayslick, and Donald Boone, 55, of Aberdeen, Ohio, at a home on US 62 following the police investigation.
- Bond was set at $100,000 cash for McKee and $50,000 cash for Boone, both pleaded not guilty, and the case was referred to the FBI for possible additional charges.
