2 found unresponsive on Provincetown boat after CO exposure
Eight people, including first responders, were hospitalized after carbon monoxide exposure on the Yankee Rose fishing boat, prompting a mass casualty incident response, police said.
- Just before 6 p.m. Thursday, Provincetown police found two people unresponsive from apparent carbon monoxide exposure on the Yankee Rose commercial fishing boat at MacMillan Pier.
- After Monday's powerful blizzard, local officials said Provincetown, Cape Cod, was largely without power or heat until Thursday and authorities do not yet know what caused the carbon monoxide leak.
- Provincetown Police and Fire Departments entered the vessel Thursday, finding a second unresponsive person; Lt. LeCain said one crew member was in the fish hold and the other in the pilot house.
- First responders extricated both patients, who were transported to Cape Cod Hospital, and in total eight people were taken for evaluation as a Mass Casualty Incident prompted mutual-aid ambulances from Truro, Wellfleet and Eastham.
- The U.S. Coast Guard said it is investigating the incident, Lt. LeCain said he did not know the status of the two crew members, and a Cape Cod Hospital spokesperson declined to comment.
