European air traffic targeted by new threats in at least 3 incidents
Authorities are investigating hoax alerts that disrupted more than two dozen flights and forced evacuations at Irish newsrooms, with no explosives found.
Staff at The RTE campus in Donnybrook evacuated on Friday after receiving a bomb threat via email. Emergency services, including the Armed Response Unit, arrived at the scene as the broadcaster halted all live programming.
Scores of media organizations across Ireland and Britain, including Newstalk, Virgin Media, and The Irish Independent, also evacuated their offices after receiving identical threats. These generic messages did not specify a particular news organization in the text.
The incident follows hoax alerts that affected at least 27 flights across Europe on Thursday. Garda officials stated they are 'aware of a threat made against media organisations here and in Europe,' signaling a coordinated investigation.
Programming on The RTE dropped out mid-air during Morning Ireland, and the scheduled programme Today with David McCullagh was replaced with pre-recorded music. Presenter Sarah McInerney confirmed she was among staff evacuated.
The broadcaster stated the safety of staff is paramount while emergency services search the Donnybrook campus. The Garda will investigate the threats across media organisations, with normal services resuming following consultation.
