A 15-year-old New Zealander becomes the youngest athlete to run a sub 4-minute mile
- Sam Ruthe, a 15-year-old from Tauranga, has become the youngest person in history to break the four-minute mile barrier, finishing in three minutes 58.35 seconds at Go Media Stadium.
- Ruthe previously held a personal best of four minutes 1.72 seconds and broke it by achieving this new record just 24 days before his 16th birthday.
- Also breaking the four-minute mark, Ben Wall finished third with a time of three minutes 59 seconds, while Sam Tanner won with a time of three minutes 58.29 seconds.
- The previous record for a 16-year-old was held by Jakob Ingebrigtsen from Norway, who ran three minutes 58.07 seconds in 2017.
