15 Suspected Gang Members Nabbed in Kisumu

Detectives recovered machetes, pangas, knives and ropes after stopping three vehicles, and one suspected gang leader escaped as a manhunt began.

  • Detectives from the DCI Operations Support Unit , working with the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau and DCI Kisumu Central, arrested 15 suspected gang members in Kisumu County following a coordinated operation.
  • Intelligence reports prompted the interception of three vehicles on the Kisumu-Kericho highway, specifically a grey Toyota Noah and two white Toyota Hiace vans operating under a matatu sacco for the Kisumu-Migori route.
  • Searches of the vehicles yielded mobile phones and crude weapons including machetes, pangas, knives, ropes, and a metal rod; one suspect believed to be the group leader escaped by jumping through a vehicle window.
  • While the 15 suspects are in custody pending arraignment, The DCI has launched a manhunt for the escaped leader who remains at large.
  • The operation demonstrates the National Police Service's resolve to disrupt criminal networks before they can strike, keeping dangerous individuals and weapons off the streets to safeguard the public.
