Man Charged in Extortion-Related Shootings, Arson in B.C.’s Lower Mainland
Police say the 22-year-old faces 15 offences after extortion threats, shootings and arson caused significant damage at businesses.
Gursewak Singh, 22, now faces 15 charges related to extortion-related shootings and arson attacks across Surrey and Abbotsford, police confirmed Tuesday.
The attacks happened over a four-day period starting December 14 when gunfire struck Paratha 2 Pasta in Surrey, which had previously received extortion threats.
Subsequent incidents involved arson on Old Yale Road on December 15 and a shooting at a business on King Road in Abbotsford on December 17.
Singh remains in police custody following his arrest by the Abbotsford Police and is set to appear in court on Friday.
Surrey remains among the hardest-hit communities in Canada, with police reporting 108 cases of extortion violence targeting the South Asian community so far this year.
