14 suspects arrested in grandparent scam targeting seniors across Canada: Ontario police

Seniors in Canada were targeted in an 'emergency grandparents scam', where scammers posed as authority figures, leading victims to believe their loved ones needed money for bail or fees. Victims, aged 46 to 95, were scammed between January and April 8, revealed OPP Det. Insp. Sean Chatland.
14 suspects were arrested in Montreal in connection with the scam, with 56 charges laid. A total of $739,000 was defrauded from 126 victims since January. The organized crime group used a methodical approach, impersonating police, lawyers, and family members to exploit victims, Chatland explained.
