11-Year-Old Girl Shot in Antioch Monday in Stable Condition

Police have surveillance but no arrests yet in the shooting of an 11-year-old girl hit by a stray bullet while in her family's vehicle, officials said.

  • In the Delta View Apartments parking lot, shortly before 12:40 p.m. Monday, an 11-year-old girl was struck in the head and taken to UC Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland.
  • As the family car left the lot, the shooter opened fire, and the bullet traveled through the back windshield and headrest before hitting the 11-year-old passenger.
  • Multiple 911 callers led officers to the family’s car at a nearby shopping center, where officers rendered first aid until Contra Costa County Fire Department personnel arrived; police had not announced any arrests Monday.
  • Antioch Police Department said, `At this stage of the investigation, the family does not appear to have been the intended targets` and the girl is in critical but stable condition at Children’s Hospital Oakland as of Tuesday.
  • Authorities say they have surveillance video of the suspect and the getaway vehicle and told NBC Bay Area they are getting closer to identifying the shooter.
