Survivor Recounts Harrowing Details About Small Plane Crash in the Atlantic
Investigators are examining the cause after the pilot declared an emergency and air traffic control lost contact with the Beechcraft BE30.
On Tuesday, all 11 people on board survived after a plane crash landed into the Atlantic Ocean, prompting a major rescue effort off the coast of Central Florida.
The Beechcraft BE30 went down about 80 miles east of Melbourne shortly after takeoff from Marsh Harbour, en route to Freeport, after the pilot declared an emergency.
Rescue crews from the Coast Guard, Royal Bahamas Defence Force, and Air Force 920th Rescue Wing transported survivors to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where three were treated for injuries.
The FAA and the Bahamas Air Accident Investigation Authority are investigating the crash, with a preliminary report expected Wednesday as officials work to determine the cause.
According to FlightAware, the aircraft is registered in Panama, with its last flight documented on Thursday before the crash occurred.
Two-engine plane crashed when flying from the Bahamas to the U.S. about 130 km off the coast of Florida. Passengers and pilots survived with buoys and passed well, according to Coast Guard. Major who participated in the rescue said it was 'miracle' that group survived.
