101 years since the first woman was elected to a Queensland council, there's still a gender gap

Summary by Ground News
Dr Ellen Mary Kent Hughes was elected to Kingaroy Shire Council on July 7, 1923, a few weeks shy of her 30th birthday. The door for women to enter local government in Queensland had only opened three years prior. It would take another 44 years for Queensland to elect its first female mayor. A new generation of women are hoping to make their own mark in 2024.
