Audi Nuvolari Prototype First Look: This Is Audi’s 1,000-Hp Hybrid Flagship
The street-legal flagship uses a twin-turbo V-8 and three electric motors, with Audi claiming 0-62 mph in 2.6 seconds.
Audi unveiled the Nuvolari today, a 987-horsepower hybrid supercar limited to 499 units with deliveries beginning in the first half of 2027. The automaker claims it will be the fastest and most powerful production vehicle in company history.
CEO Gernot Döllner confirmed Audi will maintain "complete flexibility" on powertrains, reversing its 2021 pledge to launch only electric vehicles starting in 2026. The V8 supercar represents the company's most emphatic rejection of that commitment.
The Nuvolari pairs a 10,000-rpm 4.0-liter V-8 engine producing 789 horsepower with three electric motors to reach a top speed of "more than" 217 mph. Audi integrated an F1-style drag reduction system and active aerodynamics generating more than 400 kg of downforce.
Priced at approximately $700,000, the Nuvolari carries a roughly 2.5x price premium over the Lamborghini Temerario, positioning it as an exclusive collector's piece. The limited production underscores Audi's strategy to establish a new performance tier.
As a halo car, the Nuvolari will generate attention for the brand as deliveries begin in 2027; however, Audi's return to V8-powered flagships signals a significant departure from its previous electrification roadmap. The shift raises questions about long-term powertrain strategy.
With the Nuvolari, the VW subsidiary Audi presents the strongest and fastest production car in its history. The limited super sports car comes with 1,001 hp.
There is talk of a technological departure in Ingolstadt, of a statement for the future. And of courage. The latter cannot be denied, it is about Audi's new super sports car Nuvolari.
