1 in 4 adolescents have been cyberbullied, StatCan says

  • A new report from StatCan reveals that one in four adolescents in Canada have experienced cyberbullying, which has significant impacts on their mental health.
  • The study highlights that young people who have been targeted online have an increased risk of developing depression, anxiety, eating disorder symptoms, and even thoughts of suicide or suicide attempts. Transgender and non-binary youth, as well as females attracted to other females, are particularly susceptible to online victimization.
  • Adolescents with chronic health conditions, such as asthma or learning disabilities, are also at a higher risk of cyberbullying, especially if they come from low-income households.
