1 critically injured, 3 arrested in Mississauga police shooting
Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating after one man was critically injured, another was hurt and three people were arrested in the shooting.
The Ontario Special Investigations Unit is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Mississauga that occurred early Thursday morning near Council Ring Road and The Collegeway, involving the Toronto Police Service.
Toronto Police Service officers were conducting an investigation in the area when the shooting occurred; Peel police confirmed three people were taken into custody with no other suspects outstanding.
Peel paramedics transported two people to the hospital with minor injuries, including a Toronto police officer injured in a collision; the Special Investigations Unit confirmed the incident was fatal.
The neighbourhood will remain closed for "several hours" as residents are urged to avoid the scene, with the Special Investigations Unit scheduled to provide an update at 9:30 a.m. today.
Investigators say the situation near Winston Churchill Boulevard is now contained, though officials are working to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision and shooting.
