B.C. Says Yukon Hantavirus Patient Has Left Hospital and Is Recovering
Health officials say the Yukon resident was discharged after testing positive for hantavirus and is still recovering, while three other passengers finished quarantine.
- The Yukon resident who tested positive for hantavirus in mid-May has left the hospital and is recovering, Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry confirmed to Black Press Media on Thursday.
- Four passengers from the MV Hondius, which was hit by hantavirus in May, arrived at the Victoria International Airport on May 10 and began a 21-day isolation period.
- Testing positive for the Andes strain on May 15 from a "presumptive positive" after mild symptoms, the Yukon resident's partner tested negative despite experiencing similar symptoms.
- While the Yukon resident required hospitalization, the three other passengers remained asymptomatic throughout isolation, with Island Health public health teams regularly assessing their condition.
- The remaining passengers complete their quarantine today, while two others ended isolation on June 21 after the 21-day isolation period mandated at arrival.
