Man fatally attacked by tiger at UK wildlife park told animal to 'stop being naughty'
The park evacuated visitors and is offering specialist support to staff as police investigate how the man entered the enclosure.
On Saturday, October 10, a man died after entering the tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park; the park remains closed on Monday, October 12, for a third consecutive day as investigations continue.
Eyewitnesses reported the man appeared to be "in a trance" before the attack, and videos circulating online show him interacting with Altai, the park's Amur tiger, before the incident occurred.
Executive Director of Place Dan Swaine confirmed Doncaster Council launched a health and safety investigation, while South Yorkshire Police asked the public to stop sharing footage of the attack online.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park stated that Altai is "safe and well" and will not be euthanized; guests with existing bookings will be contacted within the next five days to reschedule visits.
Local resident Angela Seivewright questioned safety protocols, asking, "What mitigations did they have in place if they saw somebody with additional needs on his own near a dangerous animal?" while community members left flowers at the park gate.
