- The 70th-anniversary Ballon d'Or ceremony takes place at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26, 2026, marking the first time the prestigious gala is held outside France to honor inaugural winner Stanley Matthews.
- Bayern Munich striker and England captain Harry Kane enters as the bookmakers' favorite with about 70 percent probability, facing stiff competition from Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé.
- Voting criteria emphasize individual performance and team trophies, and Kane recently admitted the prolonged wait for the announcement is 'very stressful' for his family despite understanding the secrecy.
- Debate centers on whether individual brilliance or team success should decide the winner; supporters of Yamal point to his World Cup victory with Spain, while Kane's advocates emphasize his 73-goal season.
- A Kane victory would end a 25-year English drought since Michael Owen won in 2001; alternatively, Yamal aims to become the youngest winner in the award's 70-year history, surpassing Brazilian legend Ronaldo.
