XREAL’s $299 Glasses Just Gave Casual AR Buyers a Much Easier Way In
The glasses drop front cameras and sensor-based tracking for software stabilization, while keeping 1080p at 120Hz and a 50-degree field of view for $299.
On Wednesday, Chinese tech company Xreal unveiled X By Xreal , a new sub-brand focused on lightweight display glasses starting at $299, with the a01 launching in China now and arriving in the U.S. in July.
Premium AR glasses command high prices due to spatial computing innovations, but the TCL RayNeo Air 4 Pro undercut the market at $299 earlier this year, prompting Xreal to develop an accessible line comparable to Apple's iPhone SE strategy.
The a01 features a 1080p Micro-OLED display at 1600 nits brightness with HDR10 support, a 50-degree field of view equivalent to a 147-inch screen from four meters away, and weighs just 62 grams—the lightest frame in its category.
Designed for extended comfort during activities like "lying in bed watching shows late at night or gaming with friends," the a01 offers interchangeable snap-on faceplates and represents the most approachable entry point to AR glasses for first-time buyers.
With competitors including Viture reportedly targeting the same $299 price point, Xreal's positioning of the xbx as a democratizing product signals intensifying value competition that could make AR technology less intimidating for mainstream consumers.
