XBOX CEO Asha Sharma praises The Elder Scrolls VI after live playthrough
Asha Sharma said the long-awaited RPG’s scale and story are impressive after a live playthrough, as workers protested layoffs outside Bethesda’s studio.
On Tuesday, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma visited Bethesda Game Studios in Rockville, Maryland, viewing a live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI and praising its "scale and grandeur" as "incredible."
Unionized workers greeted the leadership visit with a giant inflatable rat and 800 red flags, each representing a colleague lost to layoffs since July 2025.
Xbox announced roughly 3,200 layoffs last month as part of a "great reset" to restore profitability, including 166 developers from the Rockville office, with another 1,600 cuts pending through 2026.
"We heard that Microsoft leadership was coming to our office this week, and decided to make our presence visible," said Nathan Hahn, a Bethesda technical director, while some staff claimed leadership "doesn't understand art."
Despite organizational turmoil, Bethesda confirmed the development roadmap for The Elder Scrolls VI remains unchanged, with the project in full production using Creation Engine 3 since 2023.
