Worst-case scenario of famine is now unfolding in Gaza, UN-backed monitor announces

On Tuesday, the World Food Programme issued a warning that the Gaza Strip faces a potential famine, with nearly 4.7 lakh people enduring conditions and one in three going without food.
Since March 2, 2025, Israel has shut all Gaza crossings, and at least 147 people, including 88 children, have died of hunger, most recently in recent weeks.
Almost 470,000 people in Gaza, including women and children, need specialist nutrition treatments, with 90,000 in need, according to the IPC report.
Under mounting pressure, Israel announced daily humanitarian pauses and will allow food and medical aid airdrops in Gaza.
According to the World Food Program, 470,000 of Gaza’s 2.1 million residents face famine-like conditions, and 325,000 Palestinians have been displaced since mid-May.
