World to Add Less Clean Energy Capacity This Year, Renewables Agency Chief Says - BusinessWorld Online
The International Renewable Energy Agency expects global clean-energy additions to decline in 2026 for the first time in five years because of inadequate transmission networks and trade barriers.
Clean-Power capacity rose by a record 692 gigawatts, or 15.5%, in 2025, reaching 5,149 gigawatts worldwide.
IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera said China’s renewable-energy growth slowed because its grid could not accept some available clean power.
La Camera said the mismatch between generation and transmission capacity is preventing another record, while the United Nations called for urgent emissions cuts.
