Games-Despite Logistical Problems, OCA Says Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Are a Success
The OCA cited 54 world records and a near 20% revenue rise as proof the Games succeeded despite transport and housing complaints.
On Sunday, the Olympic Council of Asia declared the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games a success, citing a near 20% revenue increase, strong viewership figures, and 54 world records despite logistical problems.
Organizers scrapped the traditional Athletes Village to cut costs, instead housing 17,000 athletes and officials in hotels, temporary wooden containers, and a cruise ship, straining accommodation and transport networks.
OCA Director General Husain Al-Musallam pointed to 212 records as evidence of effective organization, while teams reported cramped rooms, short beds, and airport delays lasting up to six hours.
Tayyab Ikram, OCA Coordination Committee President, acknowledged logistical complaints but defended the distributed model as sustainable, stating "there is no Games without challenges" in events of such scale.
The Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games may adopt a similar distributed venue model, as officials suggest this approach offers sustainable, economical alternatives for future hosts without compromising athlete conditions.
