Wissahickon School District Principal Accused of Antisemitic Remarks Put on Leave
Principal Philip Leddy left an antisemitic voicemail prompting immediate termination recommendation amid concerns about systemic issues and student safety, district officials said.
- On Dec. 19, 2025 Wissahickon School District officials said they placed Philip Leddy, principal of Lower Gwynedd Elementary School, on leave after receiving a voicemail with alleged antisemitic remarks and will recommend termination at a hearing Monday, Dec. 22.
- District officials say they received the recording Friday morning, which contained antisemitic comments left for the parent whose voicemail was recorded, and Philip Leddy self-reported thinking the call had disconnected before continuing.
- Superintendent Dr. Mwenyewe Dawan said, `We are truly shocked and sickened that a school leader trusted with the safety and well-being of students and staff would speak this way`, while ADL Philadelphia noted 9,354 anti-Semitic incidents in 2024.
- Counselors will be available at Lower Gwynedd Elementary School on Monday, the district put a staffing plan in place, and the other staff member heard on the recording was placed on administrative leave.
- Community leaders and clergy warned that the other staffer's silence raises concerns about systemic issues amid a global rise in antisemitism and recent attacks, while noting Philip Leddy's prior Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee role and lack of earlier complaints.
