B.C. Driver Charged in Fiery Crash that Left Two Dead Near Lytton, B.C., Last Year
RCMP said two people died and four were injured when a Ford SUV and GMC pickup collided and burned in the crash.
- On Aug. 6, 2026, 44-year-old Joel Chenier of Williams Lake was charged with driving without due care and attention under Section 144 of the Motor Vehicle Act following a fatal crash.
- A black Ford SUV collided with a grey GMC pickup on Highway 1, just south of Lytton, on Aug. 15, 2025, with both vehicles destroyed by fire.
- Two people were killed and four others injured in the collision; RCMP reported that Chenier and his vehicle's occupants included three of the injured and one of the deceased.
- During weeks following the collision, the RCMP transferred the investigation to Highway Patrol, which forwarded results to the Prosecution Service for review.
- Chenier has been served with a summons to appear in Lillooet Provincial Court on Sept. 15, 2026, regarding the charges stemming from the collision.
