Williams Lake Gets a Chance to Know the Candidates Ahead Municipal Elections
Residents said the brief two-minute pitches left them wanting more detail on climate resilience, disability supports and council priorities.
On Monday, October 5, Williams Lake residents met candidates at a meet-and-greet organized by the Williams Lake & District Chamber of Commerce, where candidates delivered two-minute presentations before speaking directly with attendees.
Residents welcomed the diverse range of candidates standing for city council, though some attendees noted the brief presentations left them wanting more information before deciding how to vote.
Shannon Newman, who has lived in Williams Lake for 36 years, urged candidates to address barriers to independent living and called for more funding for seniors and adults with disabilities.
Teacher Frances McCoubrey requested more discussion on climate resilience and economic diversification, while resident Anita Smith sought public dialogues with First Nations regarding land claims affecting the community.
Advance voting begins today at the city hall lobby, 450 Mart St., with additional ballots available October 14. General voting takes place Saturday, October 17, at the Marie Sharpe Elementary School gymnasium, 260 Cameron St.
