Wilkerson, Humana-Paredes seek Montreal three-peat in pro beach volleyball
The Canadians are ranked ninth in the world and seek a second tournament win this season after taking gold in Ostrava in May.
Canadian beach volleyball stars Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson begin their pursuit of a Montreal three-peat this week at the FIVB Beach Pro Tournament at Parc Jean-Drapeau, seeking a third consecutive title on home soil.
With no Olympic Games or world championships scheduled for 2026, the duo circled Montreal as their season highlight. Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson won in Montreal in 2023 and 2025, fueling their drive for another gold.
The tournament features 24 teams per gender competing for $400,000 in prize money. Marie-Alex of Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez, Que., and Lea Monkhouse of Mississauga, Ont., join Samuel Schachter of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Jonathan Pickett of Wiarton, Ont., in the main draw.
After reuniting with coaches Marcio Sicoli and Guilherme Tenius, Humana-Paredes feels refreshed following a hip injury earlier this season. The team leverages their renewed partnership to overcome recent setbacks and pursue the title.
Beyond the court, Humana-Paredes supports climate solutions through her Sport One Carbon Zero initiative, donating $20 for every dig made and aiming to raise $10,000 to fund environmental projects.
