- Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation CEO Jamartin Sihite said the ape "had to walk through the fire" to reach a tree, suffering severe burns on her soles and toes in late September.
- Andi Muhammad Khadafi, head of the Central Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency, told reporters on Thursday that "Novita is still receiving intensive care," with burns on her hands and feet slowly improving.
- Officials also rescued a male orangutan named Bara on Thursday, as conservation official Handi Nasoka noted "the haze was quite thick" due to persistent regional fires.
