UPDATE: Orange, Yellow Air Quality Warnings Remain for Okanagan, Thompson, Eastern Fraser Valley
Wildfire smoke is driving elevated fine particulate matter and poor visibility, with officials urging residents to limit outdoor activity and watch for symptoms.
The Metro Vancouver Regional District issued an orange air quality warning on Friday for parts of Metro Vancouver, indicating a very high health risk for people in the impacted areas.
Smoke from wildfires burning in the South Cariboo and near Boston Bar triggered the alert, with conditions expected to persist longer than 48 hours in affected regions.
Currently, the Eastern Fraser Valley from Abbotsford to Hope and the South Okanagan from Summerland to Osoyoos are under orange warnings, while humidex values in Chilliwack exceed 30°C.
Environment Canada advises residents in affected areas to limit outdoor time and keep doors and windows closed; call HealthLink if medical help is needed.
While Kelowna, Kamloops, Merritt, Ashcroft, Princeton, and Nakusp remain under yellow air quality warnings, ECCC expects conditions to improve soon with potential rain in the forecast.
